When coaching sports, you have to have patience with the kids. I have had the honor of coaching 4th grade girls basketball and Junior Varsity fast-pitch softball. Two completely different sports and two different age groups too. Working with the younger group is defiantly more challenging because you are teaching them the fundamentals about the sport. With the older group they already know, or should know, the fundamentals and you can work on the detailed aspects of the sport. When you are coaching different age groups, you have to know how they react to each thing that you teach them. All kids learn differently, and when you are coaching you have to pick up on that pretty quick so you know what is going to make your team better. Overall, I wouldn’t change my decision to coach for anything. You form such a bond with each child and they look up to you in many different ways, it’s amazing.
